ELVAN (AL) RODERICK GARDEN

State Highway O, Farmington, MO

The home of Dykes Medal winner 'Ruffled Ballet', the Elvan (Al) and Pauline Roderick garden, known as Hillview Gardens, is a wonderfully landscaped perennial garden just off Highway 67 (turn east at Rosener's Restaurant) 70 miles south of St. Louis.

Established in 1988 following Al's sale of his florist business, this garden has over 200 iris varieties, large numbers of daffodils (many of Dave Niswonger's creations), daylilies, hostas and much more. It is fronted by a large blue spruce (hoopsi) -- the bluest of the blue that retains its color all year. His 11-1/2 acres of grounds are home to a flock of turkeys, numbering at least 30, that visit daily.
